| Peter Petrelli is a former nurse who lives in New York City. He is described by those around him as sensitive, compassionate, and a "dreamer." He has a close yet tense relationship with his brother Nathan. Peter possesses superpower absorption, the ability to copy the abilities of SGs near him for a limited period. The first signs of Peter's ability surfaced six months ago, when Nathan was in a terrible car accident that paralyzed his wife. Peter had a vivid dream about the accident, including details that only those present should have known. In late September, Peter began having extraordinarily vivid dreams of flying through the streets of New York. He often discussed these dreams with his brother and often in public, much to Nathan's chagrin. On October 1, according to a Petrelli Campaign Press Release, Peter attempted suicide by jumping off a fifteen-story building. However, it is the opinion of OWI's senior officer in New York that this was actually an attempt to fly. Peter was later heard saying to his brother "We both flew!" so the likely sequence of events was that Nathan flew to catch him but failed, resulting in Peter's injuries. This story has also been confirmed by Isaac Mendez. Peter then attempted to fly outside his brother's presence by jumping off the monkey bars at a playground. These attempts only resulted in bruises. Soon after, he quit his job, saying he was tired of "saving the world one person at a time," and contacted Mohinder Suresh. Peter took Suresh to visit Isaac, but Isaac was in a precognitive trance and did not respond to the knocks at his door. Later, as Peter and Suresh left on a subway, time was stopped and Peter met Hiro Nakamura who said he was "from the future." Nakamura discussed Peter's destiny, told him to go back to Isaac, and relayed an important message: "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World." Peter then tried to explain this to Suresh. Suresh promptly left the man he was now convinced was absolutely insane. Peter returned to Isaac, and attempted to figure out why Nakamura told him to do so. Isaac explained the significance of the painting of a nuclear explosion on his floor, and said he made new paintings to see how he could stop it. The only answers he got were "garbage about a cheerleader." Peter tried to get Isaac to finish a painting of a man in a baseball cap, but Isaac said he couldn't because he was out of heroin. Peter stared at the painting, and saw something in the canvas. He then concentrated, entered a precognitive trance, and finished the painting. The painting depicted the man standing over the mutilated corpse of a cheerleader. As he and Isaac discussed the painting, Isaac was called by the present time's Hiro Nakamura. Peter answered the phone, and relayed the "save the cheerleader" message to Nakamura. Isaac showed Peter a sequence of paintings depicting "the cheerleader." A painting was missing. Isaac recalled that it was sold, but could not remember its contents. Simone Deveaux later told Peter the painting in question was purchased by Mr. Linderman. Intending to have his brother buy back the painting, Peter went to the Petrelli mansion on Long Island at the same time Oliver Dennison from the New York Journal was interviewing Nathan. Dennison questioned the events surrounding Nathan's affair with Niki Sanders. Peter immediately covered for his brother, saying Sanders was a doctor from a mental health clinic Peter was going to visit. Nathan later bought the painting from Mr. Linderman, but lied to Peter, telling him to forget about it. Nathan later destroyed the painting, but Ms. Deveaux kept a photo of it, and later showed it to Peter. The painting was of Peter, dead, lying in a pool of blood under a banner that read "Union Wells High School Homecoming." Deveaux told Peter that the school was in Odessa, Texas, and Peter promptly left to "save the cheerleader." In Odessa, Peter met Claire Bennet and helped her escape from Sylar. In a scuffle that ensued with him, Peter fell five stories off a ledge, and apparently died. He was only revived when Claire returned to him after calling the police, and he absorbed her healing powers. However, Peter was then arrested for the murder of Jacquelyn Wilcox. Blood testing reveals the only blood on his person was his own, and after several interviews, is released with the help of the FBI and his brother Nathan. However, as soon as he left the Odessa Sheriff's Office, he fell into a coma. According to Nathan's statement, he said "It's all my fault the explosion. It's me," before losing consciousness. Special thanks is extended to Isaac Mendez and OWI Agent Eden McCain for providing the majority of the information for this report. |
