NEW OWI CONTEST
Where in Time is Hiro Nakamura? Click the picture below and enter to win!

12/31/07
Year end round up.
Well I hope everyone had a great Christmas last week. Tomorrow is a new year! Where did the last one go?
NBC is still churning out stories through the
Graphic Novels and updates from Hana Gitelman on her website.
Hana recently mailed out an audio clip of some
Buddhest tuvian throat chanting (thanks Ashaman). If you
turn down your right speaker a message come through from the man named Drucker she has been looking
for. Flyman and jflux from the OWI forums have transcribed the message.

"Your making me angry Hana, and I've spent a lifetime taming my anger. You don't know what could happen
when emotion takes place of sanity."

I really enjoy this viral content but I would prefer the return of the show. The OWI wishes that all the parties
involved in the WGA strike would just sit down and get a deal done. Everyone deserves their fair share in the
market place. Let cooler heads prevail soon please. I am speaking for ALL HEROES fans.

Brian Lewis has sent us a new Fan Fiction series. Check it out along with all of our other fan submitted
stories.

In case you weren't sure...
Noah Bennet is cooler than Chuck Norris.

THE HEROES 'RALLY REPORT'
Alex Garcia has submitted his Rally Report. There is a lot of great info and many pictures included.  Check it
out
HERE. Thanks to Alex for taking time out of his lunch hour to go to the rally and sending in his report.

1000 Cranes for HEROES
There is a fantastic campaign already underway in support of the writers of HEROES. This project was cited
in the Wall Street Journal last week and reportedly Tim Kring noted this project yesterday during the
HEROES day rally at Universal.

THE OWI encourages anyone who is interested in participating in the 1000 Cranes for HEROES project to visit
their
MYSPACE PAGE. They have a video to help you learn how to fold a paper crane, the mailing address
and even a letter that you can include with your package. I applaud their efforts and plan on sending a
morally gray crane to the writers...

Speaking of the rally at Universal yesterday, Alex, one of our readers attended the event. He will be filing a
report and sending in pictures. They were handing out T-Shirts and comics to the attendees. Alex even said
that Grunberg told him that he had visited the OWI and really liked it. How cool is that? They really do read
your comments! Alex's 'Rally Report' with pictures will be posted later today.

The OWI also got an email from Christine Amarantus. She was also able to attend the HEROES rally yesterday
and has sent us a
LINK for her pictures. Thanks for sharing Christine!

Saving the World: A Guide To HEROES
“Save the Cheerleader, Save the World; With that immediately memorable mantra, Heroes became the top–
rated new series of fall 2006. Featuring such archetypal characters as one with a split personality, one who
can fly, one who can see the future, one who can time travel — and the evil villain out to steal all of the
powers for himself — the show touches our inner comic book fan, even if we’ve never cracked open a comic
book.

Saving the World: A Guide to Heroes will include essay analyses of the many reasons that keep Heroes’
audience tuning in each week. Authors Lynnette Porter, David Lavery, and Hillary Robson are experts in the
field of television analysis, having penned books on Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Deadwood, Seinfeld, The
Sopranos, and many others. In this book, they will explore the history of comic books making their way to the
screen, and how this show has been affected by the decades of comic book superheroes that precede it; the
series’ archetypal characters; the fandom surrounding the show; its link to other current series such as
Lost; creator Tim Kring and how he is the driving force behind the show. The book will include brief episode
guides of each installment of the series.

Saving the World will finally help the large audience of the show understand the mysteries of the series.

Saving the World: A Guide To HEROES is set to be released next week. Click on the cover above to pre-order
your copy!

Interviewing Hollywood, George Takei

Superhero Hype has a new Interview with Masi Oka. Make sure to visit Superhero Hype for the rest of it. Here
is a sample of it.

SHH: What seems to make the character unique is that with all these reluctant heroes, Masi, you play the
world's one not reluctant hero. What were your thoughts when you first read that concept.
Oka: I thought it was phenomenal... Tim Kring created an amazing, beautiful world with such rich characters.
Hiro embodied the sense of the 'every man' in many ways -- and how we all dreamed as a kid of wanting to be
a superhero. And he's someone who kept his dream. He believed in it, believed in it, believed in it – and
finally his dreams came true. To be able to live that -- live vicariously of his dreams -- of my dreams-- of
becoming a superhero through his dreams, it's just fantastic. And I'm just very fortunate to have been part --
and having Tim entrust me with the character.

A while back I asked readers of the OWI message board to submit questions for a quick Q&A with Greg
Grunberg. Recently he was kind enough to take a few minutes and answer our questions. I would like to
thank Greg for taking the time and Barb who made this possible!

OWI: Do you prefer playing Matt Parkman as the nice guy we see now, or the future "morally gray" version
we saw in 5 Years Gone?

GG: I always want people to think that he could turn on a dime if he had to. If I come across as nice ALL the
time it wouldn't be interesting. We all have a dark side. Don't we?

OWI: What did Matt ever do with those diamonds?

GG: Gave them to his pregnant wife Janice. She was left holding the bag...literally.

Source: The Hollywood Reporter June 1, 2007

Dania Ramirez, who played Callisto in X-Men: The Last Stand and has a recurring role on "The Sopranos,"
has been added as a regular on the NBC's hit series "Heroes." The show returns for a second season in the
fall.

Ramirez will play Maya, a new hero whose powers are being kept under wraps.

"Heroes" extends Ramirez's relationship with NBC. This past development season, she co-starred in the
network's drama pilot "Fort Pit."

Maya is one of four to five new characters expected to be added to "Heroes" next season, but her character
might be the only regular one. The other roles, most of which are said to have international flavor, include a
sexy boyfriend for Claire (Hayden Panettiere), a 28-year-old black mother, a surrogate for Niki's (Ali Larter)
son and an Irish mobster.

Update 5/25
STOP HATIN’ ON HEROES
Why the finale was GREAT!

David Deas, THE OWI

Since the season finale of HEROES this past Monday I have read a torrent of reviews bashing the show for its
lack of spectacular effects and the ‘lame’, 'boring' attempt at a Peter vs Sylar battle royale, there have even
cries for New York City to have been blown up by an exploding man.

I beg to differ that the season finale was exactly what it should have been. We were shown earlier in the
season what needed to be done.  Peter was supposed to, ‘Save the Cheerleader. Save the World’. He saved
Claire from the hands of Sylar at ‘Homecoming’. Therefore the next part was inevitable.

The people who are crying foul about no special effects and no major battle royale, missed the meaning of
the show. It was never about the cool special effects, it was never really about the extraordinary abilities.
The show was about one thing alone, the ordinary people. People who cared about each other, people who
had friends and families.

The ending with Peter and Nathan was fantastic. All season we have watched Nathan Petrelli ride the fence
of good and evil, hoped to see him fly, waited to see him stand for something good. We got all of that. Critics
ask ‘why didn’t Peter just fly away himself?’, I will present you with two reasons. One, it
wouldn’t have been as dramatic, this is a drama after all. Two is because Peter even said that he couldn’t
control his abilities, they were in overload. He had just been exposed to a bunch of new abilities and his fight
with Sylar had set off Ted’s radiation.

To everyone that is panning this finale…you missed the point.

I applaud Tim Kring, the writing, directing and production staff that brought us maybe one of the best
complete seasons of television ever. Also NBC deserves it’s due for standing behind 'Team Kring'. They know
they have a hit on their hands and will continue to support it. The cast is just downright amazing. I can’t say
enough about all of them. Who can?

'Team Kring', keep doing what you are doing…all the 'ordinary people' I know love your show.

Update 5/21
Buddytv.com has posted a new exclusive interview with James Kyson-Lee who plays our favorite sidekick
Ando Masahashi. Stop by and read the article at
Buddytv.com. Don't forget to tune in for the season finale
tonight!

Update 5/14
HEROES to run 30 episodes next season.
Source Orlando Sentinel.
"NBC has decided to give "Heroes" the bulk-up challenge. Fans, this is good news. It could be GREAT news.
The series will offer 24 original episodes next season. NBC will supplement them with six episodes called
"Heroes: Origins." Those "Origins" installments will introduce a character each week. Viewers will decide, by
voting at NBC.com, which one will join the series the following season.
The real upsides: You won't see a lot of repeats. And the show won't take long breaks.
NBC's goal was to stay more consistent in scheduling, said Kevin Reilly, president of NBC Entertainment.
One danger signal: The show has lost momentum in the spring. But "Heroes" remains the most-watched
show introduced this season. It is also the most popular among the 18-to-49 crowd that advertisers crave.
"Heroes" creator Tim Kring came up with the "Origins" idea, and cast regulars could pop up in the "Origins"
episodes. A separate unit will write and produce the "Origins" episodes.
Reilly offered several plans for scheduling "Heroes." The drama series could start in the fall and deliver 24
episodes, then "Origins" might appear.
Or "Origins" could run as a chunk in the spring.
I have to think the latter plan will be the way they go; NBC will want to save new "Heroes" for the May
sweeps."

In case you missed it, almost the entire cast of HEROES was on the Today Show this morning. The link for the
video is
HERE. Thanks to 'Red Vector' for the link.

Part four of Dee Allen's 'Tortured Souls' has been posted. Keep up to date with this great story. You can find
it
HERE in the fan-fiction section.

Update 5/13
Happy Mother's Day to all of the Mothers and Grandmothers who visit the OWI. There are a few mothers I
would like to thank. Angela Petrelli, Niki Sanders, Mrs. Gray who passed away mysteriously this week and
Sandra Bennet, wherever you are.  We all love you and we wish you a Happy Mother's Day!

On a more serious note...Sci-Fi Wire has posted and interview with Masi Oka, who of course plays Hiro
Nakamura. In the interview Masi refers to the mysterious company as...the O.W.I. I thought this was pretty
cool as it was I who coined that term over at the NBC board back in October and hence created this fan site.
Here is that portion of the interview

SFW: Oka also talked about the return of guest star George Takei, who plays his father on the show and has
some involvement with the mysterious O.W.I., or Organization Without Initials. "It's going to be pretty
fantastic," Oka said of the next episode, titled "Landslide." "[Takei is] there, and we get a little bit of a
training montage, like a Karate Kid thing. ... He might be part of the O.W.I. We don't know. The whole O.W.I.
could be something bigger than we think...."

The link for the rest of the interview is
HERE. Thanks to Shangrila72 for the link!

Update 4/24
Part 2 of 'Tortured Souls' is up in the Fan-Fiction section HERE.

Cameron Curtis from BuddyTV has just posted a great new interview with Zach Quinto. Here is a portion:

So part of what makes him scary as a character is that he can completely conceal his evil side…who

Yeah, definitely.

Is it difficult for you to balance those two personas?

No, that’s one of my favorite parts of the character is walking that line and sort of finding those different
colors and those different layers in the experience, you know.  I think it’s one of the best aspects of the
character, one of many.

Definitely.  Do you ever wish you could play one of the good guys?

Nope.  Not in this show.  I mean I think that’s you know, I mean, no I really don’t.  For me, this is exactly where
I want to be in my career and in the work that I’m doing so I couldn’t ask for anything else, anything better.

Read the rest of the interview
HERE. Thanks to Cameron for the heads up and congrats on the interview.
Zach The OWI would love to hear from you!

Update 4/23
Well we have made it through the dreaded hiatus! We have updated the Everyday Heroes page, watch out for
Miss America 1944! Our "Where in the World is Hiro Nakamura?" contest is finally over. Thanks to all that

EDITORIAL 2/19
HOLY $#!%!:
Beeman and Loeb for Presidents!
By: D. Deas-www.the-owi.com
After a few less than thrilling episodes set at level 6, Jeph Loeb and Greg Beeman, you guys turned it back
up to an 11. 'Unexpected' was the perfect title for this episode. All I can say is that I am still stunned. This is
what HEROES is all about. Beeman and Loeb did you two ever hit the nail on the head. This is the formula
that fans are craving, intensity, suspense and action. I am almost speechless. The writing was amazing the
direction perfect in everyway. The twists and turns, the use of incredible acting from all of the actors
especially Zachary Quinto. Sylar is the epitomy of a great villian, he can charm you to death.  If this was just
Episode 16, I cannot even imagine what the season finale will bring. I will admit the past few shows have left
me a bit dry...such a Doubting Thomas I and many other fans were. Well shame on us! In the words of Wayne
Campbell and Garth Algar..."We're not worthy, we're not worthy!"

UPDATE 2/12
Hayden Panettiere will be appearing on Late Night with Conan O'Brien tonight February 12 at 12:35am. Make

UPDATE 2/4
Stan Lee to Make Heroes Cameo
Source: NBC
February 3, 2007

Stan Lee is set to make a cameo appearance as a bus driver in the Monday, February 19 episode of NBC's hit
drama "Heroes." The episode, titled "Unexpected," features a scene in which Hiro encounters the legendary
Lee. Check out the photo!

Stan Lee is best known for being the creator of Spider-Man and X-Men. He has had many cameos in those
film franchises. Most recently Lee was on the Sci-Fi channel's "Who wants to be a Superhero".

EDITORIAL 2/3
PLEASE STOP NBC!!
I created this fan community to give the viewers a place where they could share in the experience of an
amazing television drama, form their own opinions and create a community. So here is my most recent
opinion about HEROES.

STOP WITH THE TAG LINES! 'Save the cheerleader. Save the world', 'Are you on the list?', and now 'Who's
Claire's Daddy'. Okay so we saved the cheerleader... shouldn't we be saving the world now? 'Are you on the
list' lasted ONE episode and now we have 'Who's Claire's Daddy?' It is starting to seem a bit cheesy, cheap
and forced to have these tag lines. This show stands on it's own two feet with the writing, acting and
directing. Why continue with the cheap marketing?

First of all 'Who's Claire's Daddy?' has sexual overtones to it. Second we have yet to actually meet her mom,
now we are already on to dad? SLOW DOWN!! Season two has been given a green light why rush? I know
that many LOST fans lost (pun intended) interest because they took too long to answer important questions.
That should not however translate into rushing all of the answers on HEROES.

The fans love the show there is no doubt, look at the ratings numbers, fan sites and message boards.
HEROES resonates, why dumb it down with cheap and unexciting marketing. What ever happened to
'Ordinary people, with extraordinary abilities?' Simple and to the point. I beg you..PLEASE STOP NBC!

UPDATE 1/30
HEROES beat 24 in the head to head ratings again on Monday night. HEROES scored a 6.1 and 24 came in
with a 5.5 rating.

Malcolm McDowell has been announced as part of the cast of HEROES. He is to play an 'ally' of Mr. Bennet
(HRG).

UPDATE 1/28
UPDATE on the exclusive OWI interview with Matthew John Armstrong. It has been posted and you can read
it
HERE. Once again thank you to Mr. Armstrong and his management for allowing this interview!

TV Guide is featuring HEROES on it's cover there are four different versions. Two of which can be seen here.

UPDATE 1/23
HEROES beat 24 in the ratings game. Various entertainment sites have reported that HEROES had an
estimated 14.8 million viewers while FOX's "24" came in with an estimated 14.4 million.

Eric Roberts has joined the cast as an associate of Mr. Bennet. His character's name is unknown, however
the name 'Thompson' from the graphic novels, featuring Hana, could come into play. Speaking of Hana, the
actress portraying her is named Stana Katic. Pictures of each of the actors can be found
HERE...
