Nathan Petrelli, the older brother of Peter Petrelli, is a career minded
politician. He fought for the country in Serbia, Bosnia and Ruwanda.
As District Attorney he put criminals behind bars. And crafted new laws
to protect the citizens of New York City. He plans on taking his historical
success as a fighter for truth and justice to a position in congress
representing New York City.
While District Attorney, Nathan was put in a difficult position of
having to build a case against reputed mobster, Mr. Linderman, a tough
casino boss in Las Vegas, who also had numerous business dealings with
his father. While Nathan followed in his father's footsteps as a laywer,
nothing quite prepared him for the emotional challenge of his brother and
he testifying against their father in the process of building a case
against Mr. Linderman.
After a celebration of Peter's graduation from nursing school, Nathan
and his wife Heidi were driving their convertible when it was approached
from behind and run off the road. Prior to the vehicle crash, Nathan
"flew" above the vehicle when his survival instinct activated his
ability for the first time. Other than Heidi, no one likely knows that this
is how he was not found in the vehicle. Heidi Petrelli was seriously
injured and is now in a wheelchair, something Nathan feels incredible
guilt over, and is one reason he chooses not to accept his ability as
some of the others.
The speculation surrounding the incident is that reputed Mob boss, Mr.
Linderman's more nefarious colleagues caused the accident. Mr.
Linderman as retaliation for the reputed upcoming indictment. The accident
helped both brothers resolve to put Linderman away, using their father's
dealings with him as a major anchor to the case. Sadly, no charges were
ever filed. Prior to affecting depositions from Peter, the senior Petrelli
passed away from an apparent heart attack. While father Petrelli had
appeared to attempt suicide on three separate occasions, it is not known at
this time if Peter and Nathan's powers were genetically passed on, or if
their abilities are 1st Generation.
Nathan appears to be concerned for his brother, however his concern for
his own political reputation and the success of his election campaign
seems to carry a greater power over him. Despite the accident with Heidi,
Mr. Linderman is a major financial supporter of this election campaign.
Nathan has been approached by Peter on numerous occasions regarding
their abilities, and until recently, Peter was unaware of not only his own
power, but those of Nathan. Despite Peter's efforts, Nathan does not
want to embrace his abilties, and fears that the public outcry that
would occur if people found out would cause them to be public outcasts.
Certainly, Nathan feels it would disrupt every aspect of his life, not
the least of which is his political career. Nathan as of yet does not
appear to be fully aware of Peter's true ability.
Recently, Nathan travelled to Odessa, Texas to bring Peter back to New
York following the incidents at Union Wells High School, in which Peter
was involved in rescuing Claire Bennet from the serial killer Sylar
(who was captured after the incident and kept from the authorities).
OWI failed to apprehend Nathan during a business trip to Vegas, when he
avoided capture by using his ability to escape. It is quite clear that
Mr. Petrelli while not being outwardly accepting of his power, he has
been actively aware of it and is experienced in applying it. Nathan was
seeking financial support from Mr. Linderman, and while there was
video-taped having an affair with Niki Sanders. Subsequent to evading his
apprehension, Nathan encountered Hiro Nakamura.
Additionally, Nathan is aware of Isaac Mendez' reported ability to
paint the future, although may not yet believe in the validity of the
paintings predictions. He knows that Peter believes, and tries very hard to
