NAME: MATT PARKMAN
ABILITY: TELEPATHY
LOCATION: LOS ANGELES, CA
BIO:

Matt Parkman is approximately 35 years old and is an officer in the LAPD.
He is married and his wife, Janice, recently told him, via allowing him to
hear her thoughts, that she is pregnant. Matt yearns to become a detective,
but he is dyslexic and unable to read the questions on the detective’s exam
well enough to answer the questions.

Matt first realized his telepathic ability while directing traffic at the scene of
a double homicide. The murders were thought to have been committed by a
serial killer named “Sylar,” whom the FBI was after. While still outside the
house, Matt heard the voice of a little girl begging someone not to hurt her.
Puzzled, he followed the voice, and discovered
Molly Walker, the daughter of
the murdered couple, hiding in a nook under the stairs. Also at the scene
was FBI agent
Audrey Hanson, with whom Matt teamed up to find and
capture the elusive
Sylar.

Recent troubles in the Parkman marriage almost ended it. Janice Parkman
was successful in her career, and with Matt’s inability to pass the detective’
s exam, his career was stalled. Janice felt that Matt withdrew from her out
of jealousy over her success, and had an affair with her husband’s ex-
partner. Matt learned about the affair shortly after the Walker murders when
he overhearing the thoughts of his ex-partner revealed the affair. Enraged by
the deception, Matt punched the man and knocked him out. Eventually, Matt
forgave Janice, and the two have reconciled, and, with the revelation of Matt’
s power to Janice, their relationship is back to what it should be.

Shortly after the Walker murders, Matt and Janice had a fight, and Matt
stormed out of their home and went to a bar. There, he noticed a tall, bald,
African American man staring at him; Matt could not read his mind, and
collapsed, unconscious to the floor. The man was
the Haitian, who
kidnapped Matt and took him to
Mr. Bennet at OWI. When he woke up, he
had a hangover and no memory of the events since the bar. Janice angrily
informed Matt he had been gone for a full day. Later, Matt discovered two
parallel-line scars on his neck.

Matt encountered
Ted Sprague while helping Audrey Hanson with a lead on
Sylar. Sprague possesses the ability to emit radiation, and his wife was in
the hospital dying from radiation poisoning. During the interview with
Sprague, Matt’s ability revealed to him that Ted had also been kidnapped by
Bennet and the Haitian, and revealed his scars. Ted pulled down his collar
to reveal scars identical to Matt’s on his neck. Ted, like Matt experienced
headaches after their abductions.

Matt’s encounters with the other mentioned SGs, with the exception of
Eden
McCain, occurred when he accompanied Audrey to Odessa, Texas to follow
up on another Sylar lead. Sylar had attempted to murder
Claire Bennet and
Peter Petrelli at Union Wells High School on the night of Homecoming,
where Claire was to be crowned Homecoming Queen. During his interview
with Peter, Peter absorbed Matt’s telepathic ability, and the two
experienced 'feedback'. Matt’s attempt to read Claire’s mind during their
interview availed him nothing but static. A later attempt to read the
Haitian’s mind reaped the word “Sylar,” but for an as yet unknown reason,
Matt developed a bad nose bleed during the attempt.

A botched raid at Primatech Paper ended Matt’s partnership with Audrey.
When they found nothing of Sylar or the room Matt had been held in, Audrey
was reprimanded by her boss, and ended the partnership. Frustrated by
being unable to find what he sought, Matt roughed Mr. Bennet up a bit and
told him that he will make Bennet pay for the kidnapping.

The reports Matt wrote, covering his work with Agent Hanson, plus his
violent behavior toward his ex-partner and Mr. Bennet, raised a few
eyebrows at LAPD. Matt was called before the review board to answer for
his reports and behavior. Although his reports were true and accurate, Matt
feared for his job and recanted the statements he’d made in the report. He
received a six-month suspension without pay.

Currently, Matt is still unable to turn off the thoughts of those around him, or
to shut everyone else out and zoom in on the thoughts of just one person.
Matt feels that what was done to him at OWI in some way changed him. He
is angry, and bent upon learning the secret he knows is hiding at Primatech
Paper.
