You wrote the online graphic novel #58 'Quarantine' for HEROES. Will you be working on
any other graphic novels.
Yes indeed, I'm personally going to be doing a run of 3 or 4 GN's in August (tentatively) as
part of the build up / climax to propel the readers into volume 3... We have some pretty cool
stuff lined up, we have a really excellent run of GN's that will be coming forth in the next
few weeks or so - they will continue to come out every Monday (just like they do now) and
then culminate in a VERY COOL way right before the Volume 3 premiere on 9/15...
How closely will the new graphic novels be tied to the show?
They will have throughlines that over-lap and characters that guide and interact with
eachother. The GN's will allow fans to really glean a lot about characters on the show, their
motivation, and a lot of back story about the company, the characters and how to save the
world.
Have you written other graphic novels outside of HEROES.
I have a GN that I've been working on for a while - I have an artist helping me out, and she
does some pretty excellent work, but since we both have "jobs" as they say, and we're not
yet "paid" for this extracurricular endeavor, it's slow going. We have talked with a few
publishers though, and they seemed pretty interested, so we'll see where that goes.
How long have you worked on HEROES? From the beginning?
I joined HEROES about 1/3 of the way through season 1. I was previously working on an ABC
show called TRAVELER which had a limited run, and when that ended, my friend Foz (who
works in production here) set me up an interview with Allan Arkush (EP/Director) - Allan
and I really hit it off (our interview focused mostly on Neil Young / Grateful Dead / Bob Dylan
stories) and he hired me as his assistant - and after finishing out season 1 as Allan's
assistant - Tim needed someone (his assistant got a writing gig on another show) and it
seemed like a perfect fit, as I want to be a writer and Tim's great. So I seamlessly
transitioned over and that was the end of that...
Give us a breakdown of what you do on an average day.
Well, I wake up - lament over my commute - sit in traffic for 45 minutes on Sunset blvd - get
in the office and start the day. A tour de force of notes calls, meetings, scheduling, talking
to the network and studio and making sure Tim still gets time to write and see his family...
It's pretty excellent - plus, the diet coke is FREE!
What can you tell us about working with Tim [Kring] on a daily basis?
It's pretty swell. He's a great guy with a good sense of humor and a great taste in music...
He's not a bad writer either... makes it good for which is a pretty good place to pick up some
pointers.
When do you all go back to shooting.
Ah, an easy one - 5/1/08.
Season 2 DVD, when is it coming?
I don't know if we have a street date yet, [8/26/08] but I do know that I've seen some of the
extra features, and they are REALLY cool - the big guns here really give some insight into
the process of making a show like HEROES, and there are a significant number of cool
factoids, clips, alternate scenes, endings, footage, commentary - it's a smorgasbord of
extras on top of some good episodes - it's going to be swell.
What is the funniest thing you have seen...any bloopers.
Greg Grunberg and Adrian Pasdar attempting to have a serious conversation (in season
two) when approaching Parkman's dad's apartment... as they stood outside the door they
couldn't get it down with out laughing - then the singing started...
Who are some of the new actors/ characters for V3?
I can't say who they are, but I can tell you that our wardrobe people will make sure they look
outstanding.
Is Christopher Eccelston returning?
He's invisible - isn't it possible he's been there all along?
Tell about your best/ worst memory.
Best: I used to go to this place called RIVERSIDE park in western Massachusetts... It's called
SIX FLAGS now, but when it was RIVERSIDE, I got to go on my first rollercoaster there.
Worst: When I was 17 my dog died... oh - do you mean about the show?
