Ando Masahashi is employed at Yamagato Industries and is the best friend of Hiro
Nakamura, an SG who can manipulate time and space. He is single, in his mid-20’s and has
a serious, unrequited crush on Hiro’s elder sister, Kimiko. Ando is also a fan of Niki
Sanders’ Internet web site, and seeking her help to get back to Japan after being chased
by thugs, broke into her home. Niki knew that Ando meant no harm, and refused to press
charges against him.

It took several demonstrations of Hiro’s power to convince Ando his friend could really do
what he said he could do. Prior to coming to believe in Hiro, Ando often teased him that
Hiro was like the transporter on Star Trek, and called Hiro “Spock.” Ando believed in Hiro’
s ability when Hiro showed him a 9th Wonders comic book with characters that looked
very much like Hiro and himself working at Yamagato, and other events, including saving a
young girl from being run over by a bus.

Knowing how to drive a car, and speaking more fluent English than his friend, Ando
accompanied Hiro to the United States. He drove Hiro from New York to Las Vegas, where
Ando enjoyed the Roulette wheel so much, he lost almost all their money. To get it back,
Hiro had Ando bet their remaining funds, and stopped time so he could place the Roulette
ball on the number Ando had chosen. Exhilarated by the ease of winning money, he and
Hiro moved to the Black Jack tables, and got into trouble when it became evident that they
were cheating. They were beaten up by thugs and tossed out of the casino.

On their travels, Ando and Hiro met several other SGs. They met Charlie Andrews in
Midland, Texas, when they stopped for a meal at the Burnt Toast Diner, where she
waitressed. Unbeknownst to Ando and Hiro, Sylar sat at another table at the diner, waiting
for his chance to murder Charlie and steal her brain. Ando waited at the diner for Hiro to
return from the past when he went back to try to save Charlie, and so he could meet Peter
Petrelli, who was on his way to Texas to “Save the Cheerleader, save the world.” They
met D.L. Hawkins, and his son, Micah Sanders, when they stopped to help free a couple
from the flaming wreckage of their car. They also met artist Isaac Mendez, creator of Hiro’
s beloved 9th Wonders comic book series, at the Burnt Toast Diner, and when they joined
him at his studio in New York, Ando finally met Nathan Petrelli, whom Hiro had met on a
prior occasion in Las Vegas.

Ando and Hiro’s current quest is to acquire the ancient sword that Hiro believes will
restore his lost abilities. They are headed to Las Vegas, to the owner of the casino from
which they were ousted, reputed mob boss, Linderman, who is a collector of Isaac’s
paintings, and is in possession of the sword. However, during an encounter with Hiro’s
father, Kaito Nakamura, Mr. Nakamura ripped the canvas apart, leaving the painting in
three pieces. Determined to get the sword and fulfill their destinies, Ando and Hiro
continue on their journey.
